Navy and White Jack & Jill Bathroom Remodel

This was such a fun bathroom to dream up! This client had been considering a renovation for a couple of bathrooms in her house (built in the early 80’s) for years and it was a pleasure to help her bring her vision to life. It started with a mosaic floor tile that she saw on a vacation to Italy in 2019. The floor that she had seen was bright and colorful with different patterns all coming together beautifully. While she wanted to bring this look into her home, she wasn’t sure how it would work with her existing style. Once we started planning, I came across a mosaic tile option that was fun, but was just a blue color, which would blend more seamlessly with her home. From there, the rest was easy because the floor did ALL the talking.

This bathroom was a full gut all the way down to the studs, and the results are much brighter and while the footprint is the same, the space feels larger as well. Some of the major focus areas for the renovation were:

  • Preserving and adding as much usable storage into the space as possible. We did this through by incorporating roomy drawers in each vanity. There was a great built-in on one side of the J&J, which we modernized by refacing the doors and were able to maintain the storage.

  • Installing new vanities that were about 5 inches taller than the original to modernize and make them more comfortable for use. While the vanities were built-in and custom, the vision was for them to look like a piece of furniture by adding feet to the toe-kick of the vanities.

  • Removing the ‘80’s fab’ in the structural elements of the bathroom, including things like the bulkhead over the mirrors, which opened the rooms up tremendously, and the medicine cabinets in exchange for modern, open shelving for decor and easily accessible storage.

  • Since the floors are really the feature of the space, we left the tile work and paint colors on the more neutral side. The shower tile is tied into the floor colors with a thick and bold accent stripe.

  • Last but not least, we tied it all together with the styling featuring some fun art from Mcgee & Co in the Shower room and a piece featuring the lullaby that the client sang to her girls as they grew up, beautifully written by one of her daughters.
